Cookie Policy

Version: 2026-05-robots-policy Last Updated: April 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Chat4U uses cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, and similar technologies on our website, dashboard, hosted demo pages, and embedded chat widget. It should be read with our Privacy Policy.

1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They can remember preferences, support authentication, maintain sessions, improve security, and measure site usage.

Similar technologies include:

  • localStorage, which stores data in your browser until deleted;
  • sessionStorage, which stores data for a browser tab or session;
  • pixels or scripts, which may measure activity or load functionality;
  • software identifiers, which may maintain chat or widget state.

Some technologies are essential. Others may require consent depending on jurisdiction, configuration, and purpose.

2. Categories We Use

2.1 Strictly Necessary

These are required for security, login, routing, localization, consent records, dashboard operation, widget operation, abuse prevention, and service reliability. Disabling them may break the website, dashboard, or chat functionality.

Examples may include authentication session cookies, security cookies, CSRF/session-related identifiers, consent state, language preference, and essential widget state.

2.2 Functional Chat and Widget Storage

The Chat4U widget may use cookies or browser storage to maintain visitor/session continuity, retry interrupted streams, support Pro Agent tool approval/navigation flows, remember tab state, and preserve the chat experience across page navigation.

Potential identifiers include values such as c4u_visitor_id, c4u_session_id, c4u_tab_id, c4u_pending_tool, and related localStorage/sessionStorage entries. Names may vary by implementation and deployment.

On the Chat4U marketing website, the Chat4U widget loads only after functional chat consent is granted. Customers embedding the widget on their own sites are responsible for their own cookie banner, notices, consent model, and disclosure of widget storage.

2.3 Analytics

Analytics technologies help us understand website and product usage, diagnose issues, and improve the Service. These may collect page views, approximate location, device/browser information, referral data, and interaction events. Analytics should be enabled only where permitted and, where required, after consent.

2.4 Marketing

Marketing technologies may support campaign measurement, attribution, or communications. We do not use marketing technologies unless configured. Where required, marketing technologies should load only after marketing consent.

2.5 Payment and Billing

Payment or billing providers may set cookies during checkout, subscription, invoicing, or billing portal flows. These are generally functional or necessary for secure payment processing and fraud prevention. Payment-provider cookies are governed by the provider's policies.

3. Consent Object

Where we store consent in localStorage, the object is versioned. A typical consent record is:

{
  "version": "2026-05-robots-policy",
  "functional": true,
  "analytics": false,
  "marketing": false,
  "timestamp": "2026-05-01T00:00:00.000Z"
}

Functional chat consent controls whether the marketing-site widget loads. Analytics and marketing consent should control non-essential scripts in those categories where they are used.

4. Customer Websites

Customers who embed Chat4U are responsible for:

  • disclosing the Chat4U widget in their own privacy and cookie policies;
  • explaining that visitors interact with AI;
  • disclosing visitor/session identifiers and browser storage;
  • obtaining consent where required;
  • configuring analytics, tracking, and integrations lawfully;
  • responding to visitor privacy requests where Customer is controller.

Chat4U does not control Customer websites or their cookie banners.

5. Managing Cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies may prevent login, dashboard use, chat continuity, or Pro Agent functionality. You can also clear localStorage and sessionStorage through browser developer tools or site settings.

For analytics technologies, browser-level controls or provider opt-out tools may also be available.

6. Do Not Track

Some browsers send "Do Not Track" signals. There is no uniform industry standard for responding to these signals. We do not use them to alter core service behavior, but we honor consent controls where implemented.

7. Changes

We may update this Cookie Policy as technologies, providers, consent requirements, or product behavior change. The version and last-updated date identify the current policy.

8. Contact

Questions about cookies or browser storage may be sent to support@chat4u.ai.
